Among those infected, the death rate for older adults age 65 or higher was hundreds of time higher than for those in their 20s during 2020. Despite the recent nation-wide surge in infections from the Delta variant of COVID-19, uptake of vaccines and other measures to prevent COVID-19, in combination with available therapeutic options to treat, has reduced COVID-19-related patient deaths in all settings. But reductions in COVID-19-related morbidity and mortality depend critically on continued success in vaccination of all health care staff and patients.

Psychotropic medications can pose serious health risks, including increased risk of death, for older people.
